Circus and muscial for children of asylumcenter Assendelft
Since a few years the foundation TOV makes musicals for children from asylumcenters in the Netherlands. These children make a musical of their own and have performances at schools in the vicinity of their "home".
The trainig/rehearsals take place during the summer holidays of the schools, when the children in the center do not have anything to distract them. Nice to have something to do and good for the integration, both between the different nationalities in the center and the children of the center and the local communities.
It is done with the help of parents, volunteers of the center and students of the performing Arts School in Utrecht. This year the musical will be made by children of the asylumcenter Assendelft, where 1000 people live in tents.
There are 80 children between 6 and 12 years old, half of them do not go to school at all because of a lack of teachers, 50 children between 12 and 16 years old and 150 between 16 and 18. The performances will be in augustus 2002. TOV needs 1250 Euro for decors and music.
