Cooking school in Mozambique for disadvantaged youth
To give young graduates from the school for streetchildren a better chance in the labor market de organisation Centro de Encontro wants to start investing in vocational training in Maputo Mozambique. These vocational courses are a continuation of the existing school for street children in Maputo. The vocational training can also be coupled with an evening course for students to graduate from elementary school in a short time if they don’t have that diploma yet.
A few years ago the Centro de Encontro invested in a vocational training for hairdressers for girls. This way the girls were given a greater chance to find work after earning their school diploma. And now they want to start a catering or cooking school for the boys. A large proportion of the girls school costs can be paid from the proceeds of two barber shops. In this way, many girls can go to school at a low cost.
The same idea will be used for the cooking school. In consultation with the boys a plan was made for a take-away with meals and sandwiches. There is a good chance of success and it is also a good learning experience for the students in training. The neighborhood has in recent years attracted many wealthy homeowners who work in the city and often do not have time to cook. The new building for the school project already has a kitchen planned to accommodate for the cooking school. The kitchen must be adapted to meet all licensing requirements. For this, there is a need for materials such as the power lines and cables, lamps, electrical cabinets, and not only for cooking but also for the other classrooms. The conduits are already in the wall. Materials such as floor tiles and wall tiles have already been purchased, as well as toilet pots and sinks. A local carpenter was asked to create a kitchen with large closets and small cabinets for storing the materials.
For the required building materials we need 750 euros.
The materials for the storing cabinets plus the wages for the carpenter we need 500 euros.
