The traditional december day of festivities for streetchildren of Maputo is a great succes each year. the children look forward to it and count on it every year. One day without the hardships of each normal day enjoying music, performances, dancing, food, clothing and lots of games to play. The day is celebrated together with the volunteers that work at the project in the innercity of Maputo.
Centro de Encontro is an independent NGO which has been organising activities for streetchildren in Maputo. The dutch Rene Boezaard founded the project in 1994 and in 2000 he handed it over to the local staf which he himself trained. De staf works with local volunteers to give the children an education, sports and lots of other activities. The reason this day is importantfor the children is because they rarely have time to do just fun things. Nobody ever celebrates a birthday or christmas even if they have a home. there are no playgrounds or parks in this part of the city. That is why this day of festivities is the highpoint in their lives each year for these children. they talk about it for many weeks afterwards.

this year the people of Centro de Encontro are hoping to organise this day again for the streetchildren. Food, rent for materials for the DJ, transportation, clothing (shorts, shirt and slippers) and small presents for the kids plus arts = and crafts/schoolmaterials will cost €1000 and is the amount requested from moments of joy.
