Young disabled people in Gambia don't stand a chance when it comes to finding a job or something usful to do to fill their days. A 'care farm' with goats and sheep would be a solution. The young people can care for the animals and earn some money with this as well, so they can can also contribute to the income of their family. And the farm can become self-sufficient by breeding and selling animals.
Future For Young People is a foundation that is active in Gambia for years now to help children and young people with education and finding work. Disabled children have an even harder time than others to find something to occupy them, let alone earn a small income. Many of these children never even leave their houses and live in isolation. FFYP now wants to build a care farm for the young disabled people in Tanji. Here they can learn to take care of the animals and they have a nice and useful way of spending their days. They also get a fee so they have 'real' work. FFYP expects the project can be self-sufficient within two years by setting up a breeding and sales program. It would like to buy 25 lambs and 25 young goats. Including vaccinations and transport the animals cost € 1925.
