A lack of adequate protection during menstruation prevents many African young women and girls from the age of 12 from going to school or work during menstruation. ASAP foundation is committed to improving the living conditions of the residents of 10 villages around Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
One of their projects for girls is to arrange personal hygiene kits. Thanks to an earlier donation from Moments of Joy in 2017 that helped buy these kits in the United States, we managed to give 120 girls a set and - most importantly - to start to “copy” the kits locally.
The ASAP office now employs 5 women for production. A kit consists of washable (and therefore reusable) pads, an instruction sheet, a pouch with a drawstring, two zip-lock pouches, 2 underpants, a washcloth and soap.
You can use the sanitary napkin for three years.
An additional advantage of this project is that when the sets are handed out, information is provided in "awareness meetings" about, among other things, (feminine) hygiene and also about how to protect yourself against unwanted pregnancies.
ASAP would like to help more girls and has approached various schools for this. It concerns about 300 girls.
A set costs € 8, -
In order to establish the initiative for the purchase and the motivation for the use by the young women, they are asked to make a contribution of € 4, so ASAP needs € 8 per set.
Amount required 300 x € 8 = € 2,400
