KGVI has about 400 pupils, of which 25% is are orphaned, but the others are all vulnerable children as well whose parents rarely able to pay school fees. KGVI is therefore strongly dependent on donations.
KG VI provides rehabilitation and boarding facilities to children from age 5 to 18 with physical disabilities and hearing impairments. It is the only secondary education facility in Zimbabwe for children with disabilities and the only primary school in the southern part of the country. The children come from all over the country. The children that board only go home for holidays, at least ..if they still have a home. (For the growing number of orphans the Center organizes permanent housing.) All children stay in small units with an accompanying house parent, to create a family situation as much as possible. The children develop their self-reliance in the units by sharing household chores, managing a budget for groceries and preparing nutritious meals.
KG VI offers tailor made education to its pupils and focuses especially on the capabilities and talents of the pupil. The school prepares them for further education or – if they do not have the necessary academic skills - a job, by organizing job training.
The school is looking for sponsoring for 20 boarding students. Costs per student for one full year: € 1.500,--
