School books for the children of KGVI, Zimbabwe from € 550, total €2850

  • Moments-of-joy op Facebook
KG VI School and Center for disabled children is always trying to find the most suitable subjects to help students pass their exams. It now wants to introduce Business Studies, Fashion & Fabrics and an easier Maths programme. This will require new textbooks for senior students: 100 Textbooks cost € 2300,-.

And for infant & junior classes KG VI needs reading books. All primary schools in Zimbabwe were very fortunate to receive a set of textbooks for all primary school children. However these are basic set books and give no opportunities for extra reading practise. KG VI would like to purchase some locally produced extra readers for infant and junior children starting out learning to read. € 550 would allow the school to purchase 90 readers from starting level to more advanced.

Total €2850

About KGVI:

KG VI provides rehabilitation and boarding facilities to children from age 3 to 18 with physical disabilities and hearing impairments. It is the only secondary education facility in Zimbabwe for children with disabilities and the only primary school in the southern part of the country.

Through its school program, KGVI offers rigorous academic training leading to collegiate admission, and trade-oriented programs for those unprepared to pursue higher education. Physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy are also offered to every child by staff and assistance from international volunteers. KGVI operates 10 independent living housing where graduates live in a group setting with assistance from house parents.

Graduates of KGVI graduate with critical life and leadership skills; several have even become guardians of younger siblings when serious illness cut short the lives of parents. In a country where the average life expectancy is less than 40, more than1.2 million children have been left without one or both parents due to the Aids pandemic, as reported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Currently KGVI is reliant on the generosity of donors from around the world who believe that every child should have the chance to live a full and productive life, in spite of physical or medical challenges.

REPORT
Dear Maurice,

I am attaching photos of some of the kids reading the lovely books that just
arrived under your funding. There are also some photos of deaf children
signing some of the words. These are all African stories so are very
applicable for our children. They are not just fun stories but also
educational stories about HIV & AIDS, health and the environment as well as some romantic and adventure stories for our older students!
Thank you so much!

Inez
