Soccer supplies for disadvantaged children at the soccerschool ' Leoes de Holanda' in Mozambique.
From our projectfinder
The situation in Mozambique is still troublesome. Kidnapping and robberies happen every day and they are getting more violent. Our project was victim too as our clubhouse and the second hand shop were broken into and everything was taken, which is of course a disaster for our modest project. We started it up again and even hired an armed guard to protect our supplies. The local police is corrupted en even rents out weapons to criminals. It is truly a banana republic and to make things worse lately there has been more religious unrest between Muslims and Christians.
One of the most successful projects is the soccer school 'Leoes de Holanda' (lions of Holland) . the soccer school has nurtured young talents who made it as professional soccer players into the 1st and 2nd liga clubs. These kids are now able to earn their living. Often they also return as trainers to our project or as coaches for a new generation of talented soccer players which is important for developing continuity for the school. This year there were again a lot of organized games and tournaments both in the local area as for the regular competition. And this year we started a few more girls teams again and we started a clubhouse to generate more income to try to get the school financially more independent.
Every year there the school needs to invest for new supplies for both the boys and the girls teams. Thanks to the generous donations of moments of joy we were able to buy the materials.

Soccer shoes and balls for the soccer club for poor children from the slums of Maputo, Mozambique, 500 Euro
Centro de Encontro is an independent NGO and has organised many activities for street children in Maputo over the past 15 years. Rene Boezaard from the Netherlands started this project in 1994 en was able to hand the organisation of the project over to a local staff who were trained by himself. The staff works together with many volunteers from the area.
One of the most successful projects is the soccer school “ the lions of Laulane “ which has a very successful boys section. They are serious contenders in the regular competition of the city of Maputo. There is also a thriving girls section nowadays for which Moments of Joy supplied the official match outfits and Shoes
Soccer balls and soccer shoes for the soccer school at Xipamanine
.
The children from this particular section of the soccer school live in a different part of town: Xipamanine the largest en poorest slum of Maputo. These boys live in a place where they are confronted with violence, drugs and prostitution on a daily base. It is especially for this reason that Centro de Encontro tries very hard to keep this part of the soccer school active. So the kids can - at least for the duration of one soccer game - be away from that violent existence.
This year there is a request for funding to pay for shoes for the boys teams of the age of 10-12 years.
