This past spring (2015) Moments of Joy was asked if they could help support summercamps for children organised by the Beautiful Kidz Namibia Foundation. This foundation has been organising summercamps for children from less fortunate backgrounds for a number of years now and their goal is to run these camps in addtion to their educational program. This summer the camps had “Forgiveness” and for the younger children “Unique and Special” as their themes. An 11 year old girl stepped forward during her summer camp and told the audience why it is so important to be able to be yourself. She told the audience that she used to be shy and afraid to share her opinion about things, but now she felt good about herself and told everyone that you are unique as you are and don’t have to pretend to be someone else.
At the end of the camps each group performed a play/show in which the cultural aspects of the group would show. There was a group that performed a Zulu play and the group that represented the Indians showcased a wonderful dance.
The most important lesson was that the children had learned that every nation, race or tribe has their own cultures and rituals and that one is no better/or worse than the other. They also experienced that one can learn a lot from each other.
Thanks to, among others, the help of Moments of Joy the summercamps, in which approx. 300 children participated, were a huge success.

Summer camps for children - Namibia
The foundation Beautiful Kidz Namibia is active in different parts of Namibia. In 2003 they started in the slums of Windhoek – Katutura – by helping children get a proper education. With a proper education, children have a better chance at succeeding in life in general. As of 2014 the foundation is also active in Ovitoto, a desolate part of the country in northern Namibia.
A regular part of their educational program is a summer camp they organise. every year. It is a moment in the lives of the children to break free from their surroundings, natural habitat, have fun and enjoy themselves.
Beautiful Kidz Namibia has asked Moments of Joy for their help in funding the summer camps.
All staff at the summer camp are volunteers and the funding needed is for food and other items needed to organise the camps.
